The Buzz: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an action role-playing video game set in an open world environment, developed by Polish video game developer CD Projekt RED. Announced in February 2013, it was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on 19 May 2015, it is also the first Witcher game released on a PlayStation console. The game is the third in the series, preceded by The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, which are based on the series of fantasy novels of the same title by the Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, but all take place after them.
Played in a third-person perspective, players control protagonist Geralt of Rivia, a Witcher who sets out on a long journey through the large land of Northern Kingdoms. Players do battle against the world's many dangers using swords and magic, while interacting with non-player characters and completing side quests and main missions all to progress through the story. Players mostly travel by foot, and also on horseback on Geralt's horse 'Roach'.
The Buzz:The game takes place in the fantasy
world of Eora, mainly inside the nation of Dyrwood. The infants in
Dyrwood are plagued by a recent phenomenon in which they become
"hollow born" upon birth, meaning they are born with no soul. During the
beginning of the game, the protagonist experiences an awakening of power
due to a disastrous supernatural event, discovering they are a
"Watcher": a person who can see souls and past lives. The objective of
the game is to find out what caused their awakening and how to solve the hollow born problem.
The Buzz: The voice of the Spirit Tree in the forest of Nibel narrates the story,
about when Ori fell from the tree during a storm as a newborn and was
adopted by a sasquatch-like creature named Naru, who raised Ori as her
own.A cataclysmic event soon makes the forest and its food supply wither,
and Naru dies. Newly orphaned Ori was left to explore the forest on his own.After collapsing near the Spirit Tree of the forest and being restored to life by it, Ori later meets Sein /saɪn/, a being who both guides Ori on his adventure and attacks enemies.
In order to restore the forest, Sein guides Ori to recover the light of
three main elements supporting the balance of Nibel: Waters, Winds and
Warmth.
